Florence Griswold View

pastel

12″x18″

collection of artist

This was a benchmark permission painting for me because I was in this iconic place where many impressionists have painted before me, with an excellent group of plein air painters. There was a black tie. champagne, piano music fundraiser going on simultaneously for the museum there, so patrons of the arts were wandering the grounds. Many other artists were doing fantastic, but more literal, representational work. But those patrons did not stop at their easels to watch. But mine, as I painted this, did. I gathered a crowd. I was a bit in awe of this and it freed me to follow my own heart, even though it is not always generally accepted. There are (and will be!) those connoisseurs who will appreciate what I do.
